Luxury Accompanied Pet Travel To Spain and the UK

Our company has been moving family pets with their owners to Spain and back for over 17 years and therefore has built up a vast knowledge and experience in every aspect of the pet travel service.

Fully Bespoke Pet Travel To Spain and the UK

Pet Travel UK specialises in transporting dogs, cats, birds and other small household pets by road between France, Spain and the whole of the United Kingdom. We pride ourselves on knowing everything there is to know about professional pet moving by road. Over the years we have moved many hundreds of pets and their owners.

When we quote a price to new potential pet travel customer for a trip they often tell us that some companies will move a pet for £300 or less. That will definitely be in a van along with 10 or 12 other dogs and cats or may be along with a removal job. There will be either one or maybe two people on the journey to look after them.  This is not safe and is bound to be very stressful for the pet.dog_walking_deck

Let us assure you this is not our way of transporting a pet.  As a consequence of the personal accompanied service we offer our customers many clients regularly use us year after year.

If cost is the only factor you will use to find the pet transport company you want then do not call us. The cheapest is never the best. We are by no means the cheapest but we are definitely not the most expensive for the personal pet travel service we offer.

Our company offers a safe, personal one to one bespoke pet travel service for pets and their owners (should they want to travel). That is why we only usually move one families pet/pets at a time.

a_pet_car

We only use air conditioned estate cars and people carriers to assure a comfortable trip for pets and owners in both summer and winter months.

Each pet travel trip is individually designed for the pet and its owners needs. For instance some people may like short ferry crossings whilst others may prefer a longer direct to Spain ferry or even a Eurotunnel crossing. Some customers may like a shorter days drive compared to another person. We realise that all our clients different but they all care more about their pets safety and travel conditions rather than just the price alone.

Owners Travelling with Pets

Owners with Pets.  A very popular extra service we offer our customers is the ability to travel along with their pets free of charge (terms & availability apply). coffee_breakThis is a very popular because it eliminates the need for the customer trying to organise their own flights or taxis to coincide with the pet travel logistics. This also keeps the pets and their owners happy and secure throughout the whole journey.

On most pet travel journeys an overnight hotel stop will be required on route. In those circumstances we always use one of the pet friendly hotels from our list. These hotels allow pets to stay in the room overnight. A small selection of these rooms are in the pet friendly hotel section below.

If owners wish to travel with their pets they will be responsible for the cost their own ferry ticket and cabin (if required) as well as any hotel costs on the journey. Obviously our company will take care the ferry and hotel room bookings for the customer. Our company enjoys generous discounts with ferry companies which will be passed on to our clients.

Many of our customers comment on the trip being more like a mini holiday rather than a unavoidable chore because of the relaxing drive, beautiful views and hotels used on route.  For more details contact us now for availability and cost.

Travel Itinerary

Whether travelling to Spain from the UK or from the UK to Spain we usually follow one of the two travel itinerary below.

1: To Spain Through France (short crossings using cross channel ferries)

Longer Road Journey

OUTWARD

Travel itinerary when travelling from the UK through France to Spain. We would normally collect the pet/owner from the UK collection address in time to catch the overnight ferry from Plymouth or Portsmouth. This would leave either at 22.00 hrs from Plymouth or 20.45 hrs or 23.00 hrs from Portsmouth. These ferries will arrive in St Malo, Caen or Roscoff, France early the next morning.

After a good free breakfast on the ferry we will disembark and set off on our journey to Spain. The route we use to drive down through France is via the west coast (as per picture) and is always the same route whichever ferry port we arrive at.  From St Malo, Caen or Roscoff we will drive to Rennes then on to Nantes. From there we head for La Rochelle then Saintes and on to Bordeaux. french-mapAfter that we cross the French border at Hendaye into Spain sometime late afternoon. That night we would spend in a pet friendly hotel in Southern France or Northern Spain (Customer to pay for their own room, food etc.).  We should arrive at the hotel at between 17.00hrs and 19.00hrs ish.

If the pet owner is not traveling, the pet/s will sleep in the room with the driver. Obviously if the owner is traveling then their pet/s will stay in the room with them. The hotel will always have food and drinks available.

The next morning we will set off from the hotel at about 08.00hrs for the final part of the journey down to our destination, via Zarragoza, Valencia then Alicante arriving in the Costa Blanca at around 15.00hrs ish. During the journey we have set comfort stops on the way but we will also stop at any time the customer wants to, for dog walks and comfort breaks. Just ask the driver and he will find the nearest services to pull in.

RETURN

Travel itinerary for the return journey from Spain through France.  This road journey to the UK is an exact copy of the route taken down to Spain but just in reverse. Collection times and the overnight hotels used will differ because we will be stopping overnight in France instead of Spain.

We would normally leave the Costa Blanca at about 07.00 hrs to set off to our overnight pet friendly hotel stop in Southern France. This stage takes about 10 hours inc. stops.

After breakfast the next day we would set off from the hotel at about 08.00hrs  to head to our preferred ferry port for the crossing to Portsmouth or Plymouth. This is about another 10 hour journey inc. stops.

When the ferry arrives at the chosen port we will disembark and set off to the destination address.

2. Through Spain Only  (Long sea crossings using Spanish ferries)

Shorter Road Journey

OUTWARD

When using the Spanish ferries for your journey the route options for travelling are the Portsmouth/Santander crossings or the Portsmouth/Bilbao crossings. In the summer months there are 5 or 6 crossings a week to Spain and back. Also there is a ferry crossing from Plymouth to Santander which leaves Plymouth on a Sunday and then leaves Santander for the return trip on Wednesdays. spanish-ferry

The Plymouth crossings does stop at the end of October ish and starts again in mid-March. Depending on the port used the ferry crossing is either an 18 hour or a 24 hour crossing.

Ferry Crossings

brit-ferry-routesWhere possible Pet Travel UK usually uses Brittany Ferries for the ferry crossings between the UK, France and Spain. This company has beautiful ships and is more sympathetic to pet transportation on the sea crossings.Pont Aven ferry

When we are traveling via Franch ports we sometimes use other companies ferry crossings. We may use the DFDS Newhaven/Dieppe ferry crossing because the sailing times are often more convenient for us depending on the destination.

These routes are shorter crossings than the Spanish ferry route. The pet accommodation on the ship depends on the ship used and the route taken.

French Ferry Crossings

  • Portsmouth to Caen (pet in vehicle on the short crossing)
  • Portsmouth to St Malo (pet taken to kennels on pet deck)
  • Plymouth to Roscoff (pet in vehicle, on short crossing)
  • Newhaven to Dieppe (pet in vehicle on the short crossing)

Spanish Ferry Crossings

  • Portsmouth to Santander (Kennel deck or pet friendly cabin)
  • Portsmouth to Bilbao (Kennel deck or pet friendly cabin)
  • Plymouth to Santander (Kennel deck or pet friendly cabin)

Pet Accommodation on Ships

The company uses two main ferry crossings for journeys between Spain and the United Kingdom
Direct to Spain. We only use the Brittany Ferries Plymouth/Portsmouth to Bilbao/Santander crossings (through Spain). There are two types of dog accommodation on these ships. There are pet friendly cabins and dog kennel spaces.

Pet Friendly Cabins

Pet Friendly cabins are normally booked up a very long time in advance so early booking is essential to guarantee a cabin. If no pet friendly cabins are available then a kennel in the kennel area is the only other option.

Pet friendly ferry crossings cabin

There are large and small kennels available please click link to see the actual sizes. Kennel Sizes Info. These are also booked fairly well in advance but there is a better chance of getting kennels at shorter notice. There are fewer large kennels so early booking is also advised.

Traveling Through France

Our company use various Brittany Ferries routes, as well as P&O and DFDS Ferries to cross the English Channel. There are almost no pet friendly cabins on these crossing so dogs and cats have to stay in the vehicles during these crossings. These sea crossings are much shorter and the pets just sleep peacefully during the short crossing. The car deck is lit at all times with security cameras. We have taken the English Channel crossings hundreds of times and never had a problem with any pet during the crossing.

Other Ferries

If a pet collection or delivery is not to be from mainland UK then various other ferry companies will be used. For example to Ireland, Isle Of Man, Isle of White Etc. Etc. Details and pricing on pet travel using these crossing vary so more details upon request.

Kennel Spaces

If there are no pet friendly cabins are available when booking a ferry then dogs are allocated their own kennel in the kennel area. Clients are able to access their dogs at any time during the journey (day or night). Large KennelTwo sizes of kennels are available, Small and large. Early booking is advised to guarantee availability. Clients can sit with their dog in the kennel area or take them out on deck for a walk. You may even see a whale or some dolphins during your time out there. No dogs are allowed in a non-pet friendly cabin.

Cats always have to remain in the vehicle during any ferry journey for obvious reason. Access is allowed three or four times during the journey to check and feed the cats. Pet seating areaThis can only be when accompanied by a member of Brittany Ferries staff. Visits are prearranged by the ferry staff at predetermined times. The car deck is fully light throughout the whole journey.

Should you require any further information on the sea crossings or would like us to check the availability of pet friendly cabins or kennel spaces on a particular crossing please call or email us and we’ll check immediately for you.

Eurotunnel Crossing

The Eurotunnel

As an alternative to sea ferry crossings we could use the Eurotunnel to cross the channel from Calais to Folkstone but it will mean a longer journey time and extra mileage in the vehicle. Of course it also will mean that your dog will not be alone at all through out the whole journey.on_eurotunnel Because of the extra mileage this option would normally mean another overnight hotel stop on route and a higher cost to the customer.  An extra hotel stop close to Calais would generally insure that you are not being delivered to your required destination at unsociable hours.

The Euro tunnel crossing only take about 35 minutes from Calais to Folkstone and you stay in the vehicle all the way with your pet. To some customers the Eurotunnel can be a simpler way for pet travel to Spain and back.

Pet Friendly Hotels

When traveling to and from Spain an overnight hotel stop may be is required, if so we always use pet friendly hotels. All pets if travelling alone will be taken in the hotel room overnight with the driver. Should the owner be traveling with their pet/s then they can have their pet in their room with them overnight. The price for the room is usually between 50€ and 75€, depending on the number of pets in the room and the time of year. Food is often available in the hotel or nearby but is not included in the room price.

If a customer is traveling with their pet then they are responsible for paying for their own room cost on and any other costs they might incur during the stay. The hotel costs are never included in any price we quote for pet travel, unless specifically agreed in writing beforehand. If you click on the main hotel pictures you will visit their websites and will be able to see each hotels facilities in more detail.

Pictured below is a small selection of the many pet friendly hotels we usually stop off at on route to or from a port.
